One hundred academic staff members of the Federal University of Education Kontagora (FUEK) have participated in a training workshop on “Teaching Entrepreneurship Using Effectuation,” organised and sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The two-day training workshop had its opening ceremony on Monday, September 6, 2026, at the Col. Sani Bello Auditorium, Federal University of Education Kontagora.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Benedict U. Akano, welcomed the resource persons and participants to the workshop. He urged the participants to take full advantage of the training, noting that the knowledge and skills acquired would enhance their capacity to become employers of labour and establish sustainable ventures even after retirement from active service.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Aminu Malam Yakubu Umar, appreciated TETFund for sponsoring the programme.
He emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills in modern-day development, describing them as essential components of education in today's rapidly changing world. He therefore encouraged staff members to acquire and develop entrepreneurial skills that would enable them to remain productive and economically independent beyond their years of active service.
The training featured presentations and practical sessions facilitated by three resource persons drawn from academia and the private sector. They were: Professor Iliya Sarki Dongs, Team Leader; Dr. Ogedegbe B.A.; and Dr. M.H. Koko
The resource persons addressed participants on various aspects of entrepreneurship and the effectuation approach to business creation and development. Topics covered included CCMA and University Graduates; Bird-in-Hand Principle; Lemonade Principle and Affordable Loss; Crazy Quilt: Networking, Partnership and Collaboration; Pilot-in-the-Plane Principle; Effective Cooperation of EDC; and Financing Business Enterprises from Idea Generation to Start-up.
The workshop provided participants with knowledge on identifying opportunities, leveraging available resources, building strategic partnerships, managing risks, and financing business ideas from conception to implementation.
Participants described the training as highly informative, engaging, and rewarding, providing valuable entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills relevant to both their professional development and future economic endeavours.
The workshop is part of the University Management's commitment to staff development and capacity building while promoting entrepreneurship as an important tool for innovation, self-reliance, and sustainable development.
